I am so proud to be your school nurse! I have been a nurse for over 28 years with nearly 20 of those years in pediatrics. I look forward to partnering with you to support your child’s individual healthcare needs while creating a healthy and safe school environment for all of our awesome students and staff! A few helpful things to know:

Medication

All medication must be age appropriate and provided in its original container.

• Prescription medication:  The medication form must be completed and signed by the physician. The prescription label must match the physician orders.
• Over the counter medications also require a completed medication form but it does not have to be signed by the physician – only a parent/guardian.
• Inhalers:  It is strongly recommended that inhalers be kept in the clinic so the school nurse can assess the student as well as assist in administration.  However, if you desire for your child to carry on his/her person, there will be an additional form that must be completed and signed by the doctor (email or call me for this form).  Even if your child is going to carry their inhaler on their person, please consider, for safety purposes, keeping a backup in the clinic.
• All medications must be picked up before or on the last day of school or it will be destroyed.

Lauren’s Law

• Due to the severity and numerous students affected by life threatening food allergies, we highly recommend that you share a non-food item to celebrate your child’s birthday such as personalized pencils. 
• If you would prefer to share a food item, a Lauren’s Law form must be completed and submitted at least 10 days prior to the day that you want to share the treat. 
• All snacks must be prepackaged that includes a list of its ingredients
• All products should be prepared in a nut and peanut tree facility. 
• An alternate snack may be recommended due to the allergies in the classroom.
• Birthday treats will be shared during the last few minutes of your child’s lunch.

Screenings

·       All students in the following grades: K, 1st, 3rd & 5th will be screened yearly for the following: Vision & Hearing Acanthosis Nigricans Spinal (5th grade only) If at any time you feel your child needs to be screened, please contact your child’s teacher or myself.

Allergies & Emergency Medications

If your child has any type of condition that requires emergency medication(s) (i.e., seizures, diabetes, asthma) or allergies that may require emergency treatment, including Epinephrine, a meeting with parents will be required.  Please be sure to ask your child’s pediatrician for an Action Plan for school to ensure we have clear guidelines for emergency management.   Food allergies require additional forms for our Nutrition Department that must also be signed by physician.

School Based Health Care (Bearcat Care Visits)

Aledo ISD partners with Parker County Hospital District to provide healthcare for minor illnesses at each of our Aledo campuses using the teledoc platform.  If your school nurse feels that your student could benefit from this service, you will be contacted to discuss further and arrange for registration of your student.  The visit will be conducted at school and if warranted, a prescription will be sent to your preferred pharmacy.  Parents will be contacted after the visit to share the outcome of the visit.  There may be times when this service is not available, but the Remote Clinic is always available as a backup.  They are located at 1115 Pecan Drive in Weatherford.
