Mrs. Emily Pyeatt Arnold, CJE

My passion for storytelling began in my own high school photography, journalism, English, theatre and speech classes. While in college I worked for The Daily Nebraskan and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. When not in the newsroom or darkroom, I could be found on the field as the National Champion mascots, Herbie Husker and Lil’ Red.

This is my 21st year teaching and 14th advising student media. I currently advise the Cat's Eye online, Ledoian yearbook, Catalyst literary arts magazine and Bearcat TV. I also coach the UIL journalism team and sponsor our Quill and Scroll Honorary Society chapter.

I became a Certified Journalism Educator in 2014, and in 2015, I was named a Rising Star by the Journalism Education Association. In 2022, I was awarded the JEA Medal of Merit, the TAJE Texas Trailblazer and named a UNT Mayborn School of Journalism and Scripps Howard Foundation Teaching Ambassador for the Emerging Journalists Program. I currently serve as the State Director for the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and I enjoy teaching at journalism conventions and workshops across the country. I consider myself fortunate to witness students cultivate their own voices in my classes and throughout their lives.
